H-1B Visas Still Available

The USCIS has recently announced that H-1B visas for foreign professionals for fiscal year 2010 are still available. USCIS continues to accept petitions subject to the general cap. In contrast, last year application received during the first week numbered more that 160,000 and far exceeded the cap. Therefore, unlike this year, applicants were subject to a lottery system.

For each fiscal year, Congress authorizes USCIS to issue 20,000 H-1B visas to applicants with a US master’s degree or higher and up to 65,000 H-1B visas to applicants with a bachelors degree or equivalent.

If you want to apply for an H-1B visa this year, you should act quickly. Visit our website for more information on H-1B Visas.

White House Announces Plans for Immigration Reform

Comprehensive Immigration reform is gaining momentum on Capital Hill and a number of positive developments appear likely to occur sooner than later in this legislative session. The Obama Administration this month gave clear signals that they intend to delve into the immigration reform debate this year. On April 9, 2009 the White House reiterated it plans to push for a clear path to legal status for an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. An extremely positive step was the appointment of Esther Olavarria Cruz, as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy of DHS. Esther is a reform-minded pro-immigration policy specialist, and will fight vigorously for a fair-minded sensible approach to immigration reform.
