A Special Welcome!
Jessica Meldon joins our team as an associate attorney, after working as a law clerk at our firm for over almost two years. In May 2009, Jessica graduated cum laude from St. Thomas School of Law. While in law school, in addition to working at our firm, Jessica was a part of the St. Thomas Immigration Clinic, and successfully represented clients on a pro bono basis. Most of Jessica’s legal education has been focused on immigration and international human rights law. Prior to law school, Jessica worked as a legislative aid to Senator Rod Smith for four years, and a summer judicial clerk for Judge Mary Barzee. Jessica comes from a family of attorneys. Two of her aunts, Rachel Wagner, and Amanda Maxwell, currently practice in Miami. Her father, Jeffery Meldon, brother, Carey Meldon, and uncle, Greg Wagner, have offices in North-Central Florida. This family dynamic has given her a unique perspective on the practice of law. Jessica will be focusing primarily on immigration litigation and we are excited to have her as a part of our team.
Hector Galeano joins our team after one year with The Patino Law Firm, where he practiced personal injury law. In May of 2008, Hector graduated cum laude from the University of Miami School Of Law. During law school, he interned with our very own Melissa Venceslau, where he acquired substantial experience in Employment Based Immigration. Hector has served as a certified Legal Intern with the Miami-Dade County Public Defenders Office and also interned for the Honorable Mercedes Bach at Eleventh Circuit County Court. We are very excited to have Hector on our team. He brings with him a strong work ethic and looks forward to bringing more success to our great firm.

January 2010, H-1B Cap will be Reached within Next Few Days
USCIS is temporarily permitting all H-1B Visa applications to be submitted without the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Labor Certification Applications (LCA). This acceptance period is effective until March 9, 2010.
The temporary change in requirements; however, does indicate that the H-1B Cap for January 2010 will be reached within the next few days.

Consular Electronic Application Center’s Worldwide Deployment of the DS-160 Form
During the period between March 1st and April 30th, 2009, the CEAC will be implementing form DS-160 as a replacement to the Electronic Visa Application Form (EVAF). The DS-160 combines all previously collected information from the forms DS-156, 157, and 158.
According to the State Department’s website, the introduction of this form is “another step in their ongoing modernization of the visa application process.” In posts where the form has already been used it has proven to be a great success and will be expanded globally for all Nonimmigrant Visas, except K’s, by April 2010.
